Oscar Piastri Wins 2024 Bandini Trophy at Imola
Oscar Piastri, McLaren’s championship leader, was awarded the 2024 Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, making him the third Australian recipient after Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo. The award, presented in Brisighella, Italy, honors a driver’s race results, character, and overall performance during the season. Piastri expressed pride in his Italian heritage and appreciation for the region’s motorsport enthusiasm. In addition to receiving the trophy, Piastri topped the first free practice session at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, with teammate Lando Norris finishing second and Carlos Sainz third, while Ferrari faced technical problems. Piastri currently leads the Formula One championship with five podiums in six races. The Bandini Trophy has previously been awarded to champions like Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Michael Schumacher.
