Lilo & Stitch Tops Box Office Third Weekend as Ballerina Underperforms
Disney's live-action remake of "Lilo & Stitch" continues to dominate the domestic box office, securing its third consecutive weekend at number one with an estimated $33 million and a total exceeding $336 million. In contrast, Lionsgate's "Ballerina," the first John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas, has underperformed with an opening weekend projected between $25.5 million and $27.5 million, falling short of earlier expectations of $30 million-plus and significantly behind "John Wick: Chapter 4" which opened with $73.8 million. Despite the weaker start, "Ballerina" has received positive audience reception, earning an A-minus CinemaScore and strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes, which may help sustain its box office run. The film's sizable $90 million production budget adds pressure, but Lionsgate has mitigated financial risk through international pre-sales. The John Wick franchise plans to expand further with a fifth mainline film, an animated prequel, and a Donnie Yen-led spin-off. Other notable box office performers include "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" in third place and "Karate Kid: Legends" holding fourth, while Wes Anderson's "The Phoenician Scheme" had a modest start.
