Canadian Woman Dies in Dolomite Snowstorm

A 56-year-old Canadian woman tragically died after being caught in a sudden snowstorm in Italy's Dolomite mountains. Alongside her, a male companion also suffered from severe hypothermia, prompting them to call for help on Thursday evening when they were about two kilometers from a mountain refuge. Rescue efforts were hampered by bad weather, preventing the evacuation of the woman despite multiple attempts by helicopter. She ultimately passed away on the mountain, while her companion was sheltered overnight by rescuers until he could be airlifted to a hospital in Bolzano on Friday. The identities of the hikers have not been disclosed.
