Murderbot Sci-Fi Series Premieres Apple TV+ May 16

Murderbot, a highly anticipated sci-fi comedy series based on Martha Wells's award-winning novel series The Murderbot Diaries, premiered on Apple TV+ on May 16, 2025. The show follows a sentient, part-biological security android named Murderbot, voiced by Alexander Skarsgård, who hacks its own governor module to gain free will but prefers binge-watching futuristic soap operas over engaging with humans. Set in a futuristic society, Murderbot reluctantly protects a group of scientists while grappling with its identity, social anxiety, and aversion to human interaction, offering a blend of humor, social commentary, and adventure. The first two episodes, "Free Commerce" and "Eye Contact," were released together, with a total of 10 episodes planned, rolling out weekly until July 11. The series also features David Dastmalchian as scientist Gurathin and Noma Dumezweni as the empathetic team leader Mensah, both of whom gain Murderbot's trust. Created by the Oscar-nominated Weitz brothers, the show combines elements of sci-fi thriller and workplace comedy, exploring themes of technology, free will, and connection.
