Hindustan Zinc Deploys 100 EVs, Expands LNG Fleet for Decarbonization
Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has partnered with GreenLine Mobility Solutions to deploy 100 electric vehicles (EVs) and expand its liquefied natural gas (LNG) truck fleet to 200, aiming for complete decarbonization of its supply chain and supporting India's green growth ambitions. GreenLine is investing ₹400 crore to establish India's first commercial-scale battery swapping infrastructure with three high-capacity stations operating 24/7, replacing diesel trucks used for inter-unit concentrate movement between mines and smelters. This initiative is expected to cut approximately 236 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions monthly, equivalent to planting about 12,000 trees, and reduce around 150,000 tonnes of Scope 3 emissions annually. HZL's CEO Arun Misra emphasized that this large-scale deployment is a bold step towards the company's net-zero target by 2050 or sooner, while GreenLine's CEO Anand Mimani highlighted the urgency and responsibility of adopting clean transport today. The collaboration exemplifies a scalable model for industrial decarbonization, combining innovation and sustainability to create a cleaner, more cost-efficient supply chain. GreenLine's LNG and EV fleets already serve multiple sectors with significant emissions reductions, and the company plans to further expand its clean transport operations.
