Chinese Rookie Wang Wins First LPGA Title Beating World No. 1

Chinese rookie Miranda Wang secured her first LPGA Tour victory at the FM Championship at TPC Boston, finishing with a four-round total of 20-under-par 268, narrowly defeating world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul by one stroke. Wang, ranked 187th globally and a 2019 Duke University graduate, showed resilience under pressure, birdieing the 17th hole after Thitikul bogeyed it, and safely parred the final hole to clinch the title and a $615,000 prize. This win marks Wang as the seventh rookie and 11th first-time winner in the 2025 LPGA season, extending the tour's streak of no multiple winners through 23 events. Thitikul, who recently claimed the No. 1 ranking and had a strong final round, finished second with a 67, recording her tenth top-10 finish and third runner-up position of the year. Wang expressed that winning the LPGA has been a lifelong dream since watching tournaments as a child and is proud of achieving this milestone. Wang joins Feng Shanshan and Yin Ruoning as only the third players from mainland China to win on the LPGA Tour.
