Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty for Yoni Barrios

Yoni Barrios, 34, faces the possibility of the death penalty for a deadly stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip on October 6, 2022, which resulted in two fatalities and six injuries. Prosecutors plan to formally announce their decision to seek capital punishment during his arraignment, citing the random nature of the attacks as an aggravating factor. Barrios allegedly approached street performers with a knife, asking for a photo, before attacking them and others nearby. The victims included Brent Hallett, 47, and Maris DiGiovanni, 30, both of whom succumbed to their injuries. After spending two years in a psychiatric hospital, a judge ruled Barrios competent to stand trial, allowing the case to proceed. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, where he will face charges of murder, attempted murder, and terrorism.
