Multiple Indian Residents Lose Over ₹7 Crore in Online Task, Parcel Scams

Multiple online scams across India have led to significant financial losses for victims, involving fraudulent schemes on platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and social media. In Hyderabad, a woman was tricked into paying nearly ₹2.5 lakh by scammers posing as foreign acquaintances and fake courier agents demanding courier and customs fees for a non-existent parcel. Another Hyderabad resident lost over ₹3.5 lakh in a Telegram-based scam involving fake hotel rating tasks and manipulated websites that pressured him to invest more money. In Karnataka, a cancer patient seeking financial aid was duped out of nearly ₹30,000 by a caller impersonating a religious organization demanding tax payments to release promised assistance. Additionally, a 25-year-old woman from Karkala lost ₹1.5 lakh in a task scam after investing in a supposed part-time job, while another man lost ₹53,000 in an online investment fraud. Authorities have registered cases and urged the public to avoid sharing personal details or transferring money without verification, advising victims to report such cybercrimes promptly.
