Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was violently attacked and set on fire by Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes in an incident rooted in personal disputes, unrelated to Vogler's political role. The attack occurred at Vogler's workplace, Showcase Magazine, where Hayes forcibly entered the office, doused Vogler in gasoline, and ignited the flames as Vogler tried to escape. Vogler was airlifted to a burn unit at UNC Chapel Hill and later died from his injuries.
