The Weeknd Honored With Key to Toronto
Toronto-born superstar The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye, received the Key to the City from Mayor Olivia Chow ahead of his four sold-out concerts at Rogers Centre. The honor celebrates his influential contributions to music, philanthropy, and culture, including major donations to the Scarborough Health Network, support for the University of Toronto’s Ethiopian Studies program, and co-founding the creative incubator HXOUSE. Chow proclaimed July 26-27 as 'The Weeknd Weekend' to mark his achievements and ongoing ties to Scarborough. The Weeknd expressed gratitude and pledged continued support for local youth through partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club of West Scarborough and Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute. He was the first Canadian solo artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021 and has donated over $10 million to global humanitarian causes. His Toronto concerts are part of his 'After Hours Til Dawn' tour, reflecting his artistic legacy and dedication to his hometown.
