CMA CGM Plans Acquire Freightliner UK Rail Logistics by Early 2026

French shipping giant CMA CGM has announced its acquisition of Freightliner UK Intermodal Logistics, a rail logistics specialist, with the deal expected to close in early 2026. The acquisition includes Freightliner's UK rail and road operations, inland terminals, and the Freightliner brand, while other parts of Freightliner such as Heavy Haul and operations in Poland and Germany remain under current ownership. CMA CGM aims to strengthen its UK presence and enhance its ability to connect sea, rail, and road transport more efficiently, supporting sustainable and competitive transport offerings and the decarbonization of global supply chains. Freightliner UK will operate as a standalone business within CMA CGM's portfolio, with opportunities for collaboration across the group. The deal follows CMA CGM's earlier purchase of Spain's Continental Rail and aligns with its strategy to expand logistics capabilities beyond maritime shipping. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to standard regulatory approvals.
