Claflin University student dies after collapsing playing basketball
Savion Brown, a 21-year-old senior computer science major at Claflin University, collapsed while playing basketball in the university gym and later died at MUSC Health Orangeburg hospital. EMS responded promptly to the 911 call and administered life-saving measures before transporting him to the hospital, but Brown was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The cause of death remains unknown, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted later this week. Claflin University expressed condolences and noted that Brown was a valued member of the community, offering grief counseling services to students and staff to support those affected by his death. Brown, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was not on the university's men's basketball team roster, indicating he was likely playing a pick-up game. Authorities and university officials are urging the community to keep Brown’s family and loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
