Salah Criticizes UEFA Over Palestinian Footballer Al-Obeid's Death in Gaza

Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has publicly criticized UEFA for failing to mention the circumstances of the death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman Al-Obeid, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' in their tribute. Al-Obeid was killed in an Israeli attack while waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip, as confirmed by the Palestinian Football Association (PFA). Salah's challenge to UEFA's tribute, asking "Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?", has gained widespread attention and praise, highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The PFA revealed that Al-Obeid was one of many members of the Palestinian football community killed since the conflict began in October 2023. Other football figures, including Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, have also expressed concern about the crisis, emphasizing the human cost beyond political ideologies. UEFA has not yet responded to Salah's request for more transparency regarding Al-Obeid's death.
