Mountain View Fire Prompts Evacuations, Destroys Homes

The Mountain View Fire broke out near the Mountain View Estates subdivision north of Buena Vista in Chaffee County, Colorado, and began as both a wildfire and a structure fire. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for the subdivision, with pre-evacuation notices issued within a five-mile radius. The fire has grown to about 20 acres and destroyed at least four homes, but no injuries have been reported. Evacuees are being directed to the Chaffee County Public Safety Complex in Buena Vista, with animal sheltering available. Authorities have declared a no-burn day, prohibiting all outdoor burning, fireworks sales, and outdoor smoking due to dangerous conditions. Power lines have been intentionally shut off as a safety measure, and restoration timing remains unclear.
