Waukesha Marks Anniversary with Memorial Dedication

On the third anniversary of the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy, a permanent memorial was dedicated in Grede Park, honoring the six victims and the community's resilience. The memorial features a heart composed of six ribbons, each representing one of those who died, and is accompanied by benches with plaques and community-created tiles. The dedication took place at 4:39 p.m., marking the exact time when the attack occurred in 2021, when Darrell Brooks drove through the parade, killing six and injuring dozens. The victims included members of the Dancing Grannies, a group that lost four of its members. Families and community members, including those who were injured, attended the ceremony to reflect and heal, with speakers highlighting the compassion and support that emerged after the tragedy. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin expressed solidarity with the Waukesha community, emphasizing support for their ongoing healing process.
