Gaikwad Joins Yorkshire; Varma Approached by Hampshire
Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad has signed with Yorkshire for his first overseas stint, joining the club for the remainder of the English County Championship season and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Gaikwad, who captains Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Maharashtra in domestic cricket, will be available for five County Championship matches starting in July, following his recovery from an elbow injury that kept him out of much of IPL 2025. He follows Indian players like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, and Cheteshwar Pujara in playing for Yorkshire. Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath and general manager Gavin Hamilton have praised his versatile batting and experience. Additionally, young Indian batsman Tilak Varma has been approached by Hampshire for a county stint, highlighting the increasing involvement of Indian players in English domestic cricket.
