Blazers Draft Yang Hansen After Trading Up
The Portland Trail Blazers selected Yang Hansen, a 7-foot-1 center from the Qingdao Eagles, with the 16th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft after trading up. Hansen, initially projected as a second-round pick, averaged 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks last season and earned All-CBA first-team honors. He is the first Chinese player drafted in the NBA first round in 18 years. Blazers management praised his high basketball IQ, passing, and defensive skills, while Coach Chauncey Billups said Hansen could contribute immediately but may face limited playing time amid a crowded center rotation. Hansen expressed surprise at being picked so early and is flattered by comparisons to Nikola Jokic and Yao Ming. Off the court, he is adapting well to American life, enjoying gaming and local food.
