Impaired Driver Kills Bicyclist in Northwest Las Vegas Crash

Two separate fatal bicycle crashes occurred Sunday morning: one in Tampa at about 9:20 a.m., and another in northwest Las Vegas just after 7 a.m. In Tampa, a 70-year-old man riding outside a marked crosswalk was struck and killed when a woman driving a 2016 Hyundai changed from the center lane to the inside lane on Fowler Avenue; police say the driver remained on scene, cooperated, and investigators found no evidence of speed or impairment, so no charges were filed. In the Las Vegas crash, a 77-year-old man was struck and killed after a Mercedes was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on North Shaumber Road near West Grand Teton Drive; the driver, identified as 69-year-old Charles Carter, remained at the scene, displayed signs of impairment, and was arrested on DUI and reckless driving charges. The Las Vegas collision is under investigation by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section and was reported as the 132nd traffic-related fatality in LVMPD jurisdiction for 2025.
