Clear the Shelters Expands Nationwide Pet Adoption Campaign in 2025

Clear The Shelters, NBCUniversal Local’s nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign, returns for its 11th year from August 1-31, 2025, with over 1,600 participating shelters and rescues across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Since its inception in 2015, the initiative has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes and raised over $5 million in donations for animal welfare. The campaign features waived and reduced adoption fees, special adoption events, and virtual adoption options via WeRescue, making pet adoption more accessible and driving increased interest and activity at shelters nationwide. Last year’s campaign saw a record-breaking 170,000 adoptions and over $500,000 raised. Fundraising efforts, led by Greater Good Charities, extend through September 15, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition returns as a national sponsor. Regional partners, including local media stations and shelters in Northeast Ohio, Central Texas, and beyond, are promoting the event and offering additional adoption incentives to help 'clear the shelters.'
