Motown Museum Begins $75 Million Expansion

Construction has officially commenced on the Motown Museum's expansion project, which is set to open in summer 2026. The new two-story building will add nearly 40,000 square feet, featuring immersive exhibits, a theater, a cafe, and retail spaces, with a total project cost of $75 million, of which $70 million has already been raised. The expansion aims to enhance the museum's role as a cultural and tourist destination, celebrating the legacy of Motown Records. Initially announced in 2016, the project faced delays due to rising costs and the COVID-19 pandemic. New renderings released showcase a gold-themed lobby adorned with images of Motown stars. Museum leaders expressed excitement about finally moving forward, with the construction expected to take 18-20 months.
