San Marino Man Arrested in Wife’s Murder, House Fire

Yoon Lai, 62, was arrested on July 3 in connection with the January murder of his wife, Dr. Irene Gaw-Lai, who was found dead with severe trauma and burns inside their burning San Marino home. Lai had initially claimed he was taking their twin sons to baseball practice when the fire happened. Authorities conducted a months-long investigation, interviewing family and neighbors, reviewing surveillance footage, and executing 25 search warrants. The couple was reportedly in the midst of a contentious divorce. Lai is being held without bail as the case is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. No further motive or specific details have been released as the investigation continues.
