One Critically Injured in University Club Apartments Fire, Lubbock

A fire at the University Club Apartments in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday night resulted in one person being hospitalized in critical condition. Lubbock Fire Rescue (LFR) responded to reports of a burning plastic odor and found smoke coming from a unit, prompting them to enter and rescue the individual. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the victim was transported to University Medical Center in serious condition. The fire was contained to a single apartment, causing minor smoke damage to adjacent units. An investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette igniting a couch, and it was noted that the smoke detector was missing. LFR is urging residents to maintain smoke detectors in their homes to prevent similar tragedies.
