Riot Cancels Hytale, Shuts Down Hypixel Studios

Hytale, the highly anticipated sandbox RPG developed by Hypixel Studios and backed by Riot Games, has been officially canceled after close to a decade in development. The project, initially announced in 2018 to much excitement and a trailer that amassed over 60 million views, struggled with escalating technical challenges and delays. Efforts to reboot the game's engine and secure further investment failed, and the team decided that reducing the game's scope would undermine its vision. As a result, Hypixel Studios will shut down, with Riot Games providing generous severance and support to staff. Both companies expressed disappointment and recognized the challenges of meeting high expectations in game development. The popular Hypixel Minecraft server will continue to operate independently.
