Southampton sign Danish international Roerslev from Brentford

Southampton have signed Denmark international Mads Roerslev from Brentford on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, aiming to strengthen their squad following their relegation from the Premier League. Roerslev, who can play as a right-back or wing-back, made 146 appearances for Brentford, including 94 in the Premier League, and was part of their promotion-winning team, assisting a key goal in the Championship play-off final. The 26-year-old began his career at FC Copenhagen before joining Brentford in 2019 and spent part of last season on loan at Wolfsburg. Brentford's director of football, Phil Giles, praised Roerslev as one of their best signings, highlighting his rise through the Brentford B team and his significant contributions to the first team. Southampton's technical director, Johannes Spors, emphasized Roerslev's experience in both the Premier League and Championship, expressing confidence in his ability to help the club achieve promotion and perform at a high level. Roerslev himself expressed enthusiasm about joining Southampton, citing the team's style of play and work ethic as good fits for him.
