Russia launches 99 Shahed drones at Ukraine, damaging infrastructure
On March 4, Russian forces launched an extensive drone attack involving 99 Shahed UAVs across Ukraine, targeting various regions including Odesa and Sumy, resulting in infrastructure damage and injuries. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 65 of these drones, while electronic warfare measures accounted for 32 decoy drones. The attacks caused significant disruptions, particularly in Odesa, where energy infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged, and in Sumy, which experienced power outages. Meanwhile, Major General Vadim Skibitsky of Ukraine's Defense Ministry reported that Russia has ramped up drone production, potentially allowing for strikes involving 500 UAVs simultaneously. This increase in drone variety complicates Ukraine's air defense efforts, as distinguishing between combat and non-combat drones becomes more challenging. Additional reports noted drone attacks on Kryvyi Rih and Kharkiv, further highlighting the ongoing threat posed by Russian aerial assaults.
