Wales implements new care home rating system April 1
Starting April 1, a new inspection ratings system for care homes and domiciliary support services in Wales will be implemented to help families make informed decisions about care options. The ratings will assess quality across four themes: well-being, care and support, leadership and management, and environment, categorizing them as excellent, good, requires improvement, or requires significant improvement. While care services will be required to display their ratings both at their premises and online, it will take up to two years for all homes to be inspected. The initiative, developed in collaboration with care providers, aims to enhance transparency and trust in the care sector. Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden, emphasized the importance of these ratings in ensuring quality care and supporting service providers in identifying areas for improvement. This system is seen as a significant step toward driving high standards within Welsh care services.
