Seagulls Invade Hyndburn, Residents Demand Action

Hyndburn, a town in Lancashire located 30 miles from the nearest coast, is experiencing an invasion of up to 3,000 seagulls, reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock's film 'The Birds'. The seagulls have swarmed a local landfill site, bombarding homes, cars, and gardens with droppings from early morning until late at night. Residents, including Gary Hough and Cheryl Gouldstone, are concerned that the presence of the birds is devaluing property prices and making outdoor activities impossible. Despite mitigation efforts by site operator Suez, such as setting off loud noises, the problem has worsened since last October and escalated dramatically since April. The community has started a campaign to urge the landfill operator to take further action. The situation has led to significant visual and noise pollution, with locals fearing the birds are now a permanent fixture as they are breeding rapidly.
