Barge Hits Sailboat Near Miami, Two Children Killed

Two children, aged 8 to 12, were killed and four others injured after a barge collided with a sailboat carrying five children and an adult counselor near Hibiscus Island in Biscayne Bay off Miami Beach. The victims were participants in a youth sailing camp organized by the Miami Youth Sailing Foundation. Emergency responders from agencies including Miami Beach Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard quickly rescued all six occupants from the water. Two children were pronounced dead at the hospital, and another remains unresponsive, while three children were initially listed in critical condition. The adult counselor and one child were evaluated at the scene but not hospitalized. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is leading the ongoing investigation, and local sailing organizations have expressed condolences and are supporting the families.
