Manoj Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected unopposed as the new Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), while Bhanumathi P.S. was elected as Deputy Mayor after a successful vote against Congress's Zeenath Shamshuddin. The mayoral position was reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate, leading the Congress and Social Democratic Party of India to abstain from the election. Kumar's election, alongside Bhanumathi's, is seen as a continuation of BJP's dominance in the MCC, where it holds 44 out of 60 seats. The new leadership will serve for only six months, until the council's term ends in March 2025, following delays in the previous election cycle. Kumar has pledged to expedite development works and collaborate with all corporators for effective governance.
