Lidl Invests £435m, Creates 500 Jobs in London, Leeds Warehouses
Lidl GB is investing a total of £435 million in expanding its logistics network with two major warehouse projects in London and Leeds to support its growth and goal of reaching 1,000 stores in the UK. The £285 million redevelopment at its Belvedere site in London involved a two-stage expansion, including constructing a new warehouse and replacing the original building with a state-of-the-art facility that has tripled capacity, now covering 800,000 sq ft to serve 120 stores. Meanwhile, construction has begun on a £150 million, 38-acre warehouse site in Gildersome, Leeds, which will create 400 new jobs, while the London expansion adds 120 roles, totaling over 500 new jobs. Lidl's Chief Real Estate Officer Richard Taylor emphasized that these investments foster economic growth and sustainable infrastructure for the company’s ambitious expansion, while also supporting its mission to make good food accessible nationwide. Chancellor Rachel Reeves praised the investment as a strong vote of confidence in the UK economy, highlighting its role in job creation, supply chain strengthening, and ensuring affordable, quality food availability. Lidl is also actively searching for additional warehouse sites in the south of England to further bolster its distribution capabilities.
