5.8-Magnitude Quake Hits Turkey and Rhodes
A powerful 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Marmaris in southwestern Turkey early on June 3, 2025, killing a 14-year-old girl and injuring approximately 70 people, mostly as they fled buildings in panic. The quake was also felt on the Greek island of Rhodes and other nearby islands, causing strong shaking but resulting in only minor damage and no injuries in Greece. Turkish authorities confirmed no significant structural damage in residential areas, and emergency teams remain on alert for aftershocks. Experts described the event as a deep earthquake, which generally results in less surface damage. No tsunami warning was issued following the quake. Travel advisories remain unchanged, with officials in both countries urging calm and continued vigilance.
