Sarah Gigante Wins Giro d'Italia Stage 4 as Marlen Reusser Retains Lead
Sarah Gigante won stage four of the Women's Giro d'Italia with a solo attack in the final kilometers of the climb from Valdobbiadene to Pianezze, finishing 25 seconds ahead of reigning champion Elisa Longo Borghini and Marlen Reusser. This victory marks a remarkable comeback for Gigante, who returned to racing after surgery on her iliac artery and a shoulder dislocation that sidelined her for six months. Marlen Reusser reclaimed the overall lead with four stages remaining, holding a 16-second advantage over Longo Borghini, while Gigante moved up to third place, 34 seconds behind. Former leader Anna Henderson suffered a significant time loss, dropping to 34th overall, potentially due to the effects of a crash on the previous stage. Anna van der Breggen also lost time on the summit finish and is now out of contention for the overall win. Gigante expressed her gratitude towards her team and described the stage win as beyond her wildest dreams.
