India Names 23-Member Squad for SAFF U17 Women’s Championship in Bhutan
Joakim Alexandersson, head coach of India's U17 women's football team, has announced a 23-member squad for the SAFF U17 Women's Championship Bhutan 2025, taking place from August 20 to 31 in Thimphu. Alexandersson, who recently led India's U20 team to their first AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup qualification in two decades, will guide the U17s as they prepare for the SAFF championship and the upcoming AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers in October in Kyrgyzstan. The championship features four teams—India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh—competing in a double round-robin format where each team plays six matches, and the highest points scorer will be crowned champion. India’s schedule includes matches against Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, with all games held at Changlimithang Stadium and streamed live on the Sportzworkz YouTube Channel. This new format aims to provide players with more game time ahead of critical international qualifiers. The squad includes goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, supported by assistant and specialized coaches.
