Colorado Residents Charged with Theft at Canyonlands
Roxanne McKnight, 39, and Dusty Spencer, 43, from Durango, Colorado, face criminal charges for allegedly stealing historic artifacts from the Cave Springs Cowboy Camp in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The U.S. Attorney's Office reported that the pair trespassed into a fenced-off area, disregarding clear warnings, and were captured on trail cameras handling and removing several artifacts, including antique nails. The incident, which occurred on March 23, involved the couple reportedly engaging in reckless behavior, such as drinking beer while interacting with protected items. They have been charged with theft of government property valued under $1,000 and disturbing archaeological resources, among other offenses. Their court appearance is scheduled for November 8 before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Dustin B. Pead. Canyonlands National Park is known for its rich history, including artifacts from pioneer cattle ranchers and ancient rock carvings from indigenous tribes.
