The 18th annual Roots Picnic music festival in Philadelphia faced significant delays and logistical challenges due to heavy rain that caused damage and muddy conditions at the Mann Center. Questlove, the Roots drummer and festival organizer, apologized for the three-hour delay and long lines that frustrated attendees, explaining that safety concerns and site repairs were prioritized to ensure a safe environment. Despite nearly canceling the event, the team worked diligently, including using mulch to absorb excess water, to salvage the festival and revise the schedule, allowing all artists, including headliners Maxwell and Latto, to perform. Questlove expressed gratitude to the Live Nation staff, the artists, and fans for their patience and support during the difficult circumstances. The festival's second day reportedly ran much more smoothly, featuring performances by the Roots, Lenny Kravitz, and Meek Mill. Fans outside the venue experienced confusion and discomfort during the delays, with some chanting for entry amid little information from staff.
