In response to the shocking findings of the Justice Hema Committee report on systemic harassment in the Malayalam film industry, various initiatives have been launched to tackle these issues. The Karnataka Women’s Commission plans a confidential survey to assess sexual harassment in the Kannada film industry, with the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) establishing Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Committees. Actress Shraddha Srinath emphasized the need for structured bodies to combat harassment and improve basic amenities on film sets. Simultaneously, a group of Malayalam film personalities, including filmmakers Anjali Menon and Lijo Jose Pellissery, are forming the Progressive Filmmakers’ Association to modernize the industry’s systems and ensure a fair workplace. These efforts collectively aim to create a safer and more equitable environment for women in the film industry.
