US Lawmakers Urge Commerce Probe OnePlus Security Risks
Two U.S. lawmakers, Republican Representative John Moolenaar and Democrat Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, have urged the Commerce Department to investigate potential security risks posed by OnePlus smartphones sold in the United States. They expressed concern that these devices may collect and transmit sensitive personal user data to servers in China without explicit user consent, based on a recent analysis provided to their committee. OnePlus devices are widely available through major U.S. retailers and operate on Verizon and T-Mobile networks. The lawmakers have also suggested considering placing OnePlus on the U.S. Entity List, which restricts access to American technologies, similar to actions taken against other Chinese companies such as Huawei and ByteDance. OnePlus, a Shenzhen-based company and subsidiary of BBK Electronics, has not yet responded to the allegations. The Commerce Department has not publicly responded to the request for investigation.
