5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Nevada
On Monday afternoon, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck approximately 15 miles northeast of Yerington, Nevada, at 3:08 p.m., with tremors felt as far as Sacramento and Modesto in California. This seismic event is part of a sequence that included 18 earthquakes reported in the region on the same day. The US Geological Survey (USGS) indicated that this could be the mainshock of the ongoing earthquake swarm. Additionally, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake was reported in northern Nevada, causing shaking in the Las Vegas Valley and prompting aftershocks of magnitudes 3.04 and 3.21. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. The earthquakes follow a recent magnitude 7.0 quake off the coast of California, which had triggered a tsunami warning.
