Capron Park Zoo's African Lion Nyalla Dies

Nyalla, a 20-year-old female African lion at Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro, passed away on New Year's Eve, with staff present during her last moments. She had lived at the zoo since July 2005 alongside her sister Kayla and male lion Ramses, forming a close-knit pride. While Nyalla had experienced health issues such as kidney problems and arthritis in recent years, she was still active and eating until a marked decline in her condition was observed in December. The zoo plans to conduct a necropsy to determine the cause of her death. Staff expressed their deep sorrow over Nyalla's loss but took pride in the exceptional care she received, allowing her to live beyond the typical lifespan for lions. Ramses will receive continued elevated care in Nyalla's absence.
