Originally challenged to eat 99 nuggets, Chestnut surpassed that mark before the second inning and continued to eat at a steady, leisurely pace throughout the game. Despite the marathon nature of eating over nine innings, Chestnut found the flavor of the nuggets manageable, which helped mitigate throat muscle fatigue common in such contests. The event was more relaxed compared to high-pressure contests like Nathan’s, with Chestnut competing against a fan-selected opponent in front of a supportive Bay Area crowd.
