On Sunday morning at 5:43 AM, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck near Pierreville, Quebec, with its epicenter reported about 8 km south of the town at a depth of 18 kilometers. The tremors were felt widely across the region, including in Trois-Rivières, Drummondville, and even as far as Montreal and Ottawa, with reports of homes shaking but no damage confirmed. Earthquakes Canada noted that such events are relatively rare in eastern Canada, although the area is part of the western Quebec seismic zone, which experiences small tremors fairly frequently. Seismologist Mareike Adams described the sensation of the quake as similar to a large truck passing by. Additionally, a separate report mentioned a magnitude 3.8 quake observed near Pierreville, indicating some variation in reported magnitudes.
