Carles Gil scores twice, Revolution defeats Red Bulls 2-1 for first win
Team captain Carles Gil led the New England Revolution to their first win of the season, scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. Gil opened the scoring with a spectacular free kick from about 30 yards in the 28th minute, before the Red Bulls equalized through Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting just before halftime. The decisive moment came in stoppage time when Gil converted a penalty kick after a foul on Ignatius Ganago. This win also marked a significant milestone as the Revolution improved their record to 7-1-1 against the Red Bulls at Gillette Stadium in their last nine meetings. Despite the victory, Gil remains the only Revolution player to score this season, highlighting ongoing challenges for the team. The win lifted the Revolution out of the Eastern Conference cellar, while the Red Bulls fell to 2-2-2 on the year.
