Chennai is set to host India's first-ever night street race with the second round of the Indian Racing Festival (IRF) featuring the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC) and Indian Racing League (IRL) on August 31 and September 1. The event will take place on a 3.5-kilometer circuit around Island Grounds, featuring 19 turns and passing several iconic landmarks. The Madras High Court extended the deadline for obtaining the necessary FIA homologation certificate until 8 p.m. on Saturday due to delays caused by weather conditions and track modifications. Traffic police have announced significant road closures and diversions to facilitate the event, impacting major roads like Walaja Road, Anna Salai, and Kamarajar Road. The race aims to elevate Indian motorsports and position Tamil Nadu as a key hub, with international drivers and gender-neutral team compositions enhancing the competition.
