Hitachi Energy Expands Tennessee Plant, Creates 100 Jobs

Hitachi Energy is investing $106 million to expand its transformer manufacturing facility in Alamo, Tennessee, creating over 100 new jobs and making it the largest facility in North America producing transformer bushings. The expansion adds 60,000 square feet—comprising manufacturing, warehouse, and office space—and is expected to be operational by mid-2027, significantly boosting production capacity to meet growing electricity demand driven by AI infrastructure and grid modernization. This strategic investment strengthens the U.S. domestic supply chain for power transmission components and positions Hitachi Energy as the second-largest employer in Crockett County. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and other officials highlighted the economic and infrastructure benefits, emphasizing the importance of this growth for rural Tennessee and the national energy future. Hitachi Energy, a global leader headquartered in Switzerland and part of Japan's Hitachi Group, is responding to a surge in transformer demand, which has increased by over 100% since 2019 due to overdue grid upgrades and expanding electrification needs. The expansion reflects a broader $1.5 billion global investment plan by Hitachi Energy to scale transformer manufacturing worldwide.
