Henry Ford Health has commenced a $2.2 billion expansion of its Detroit campus, marking the largest healthcare investment in the city's history. The project will feature a new 1.2 million-square-foot facility, including a 20-story patient tower and an expanded emergency department that doubles in size to 75,000 square feet. Additionally, the facility will house 28 advanced operating rooms and five floors dedicated to specialized intensive care units. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan praised the initiative as a 'rebirth of health care' in the city, emphasizing a shift away from investments in the suburbs. The expansion aims to enhance patient care and accessibility while promoting sustainability by eliminating the need for natural gas. The facility is expected to open in 2029.
