Mike Gartner Appointed Hockey Hall of Fame Chair

Mike Gartner has been appointed to succeed Lanny McDonald as the chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame, effective June 2025. Gartner, who will become chair-elect on October 1, 2024, has been a member of the Selection Committee since 2009 and served as its chair for the past three years. McDonald praised Gartner's stature and experience in hockey, stating he would bring continuity and strong leadership during this transition. Gartner, a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee in 2001, had a distinguished 19-season NHL career, scoring 708 goals and accumulating 1,335 points. As chair-elect, Gartner will also participate in the search for a new president and CEO to replace Jeff Denomme upon his retirement. McDonald, who has led the Hall for a decade, expressed confidence in Gartner's ability to honor the game's history and distinguished individuals.
