Joseph Camino Charged After Courthouse Shooting
Joseph Camino, a 56-year-old man recently paroled after serving 35 years for third-degree murder, was shot by security guards at the Sylvia H. Rambo U.S. Courthouse in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, after attempting to stab a guard with a folding knife. The incident occurred when Camino, who had been staying at a halfway house, entered the courthouse and lunged at a security officer. He was charged with assault of a federal officer and weapons charges, facing a maximum of 27 years in prison if convicted. Following the shooting, Camino was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. During his imprisonment, he had filed multiple civil rights complaints that were dismissed by the same judge after whom the courthouse is named. Security personnel were unharmed during the confrontation, which has raised concerns about courthouse safety protocols.
