O'Callaghan, Multiple World Records at Toronto
Australia’s Mollie O'Callaghan lowered her own short-course 200m freestyle world record to 1:49.36 at the Swimming World Cup stop in Toronto, her second world record in a week, and collected $15,000 for winning the U.S. Triple Crown and another $15,000 for the record. The meet produced a cascade of other world records, led by Lani Pallister lowering Katie Ledecky’s short-course 800m record to 7:54.00 and American Kate Douglass becoming the first woman under 50 seconds in the 100m freestyle (49.93). Australia’s Kaylee McKeown lowered the 200m backstroke world record to 1:57.33, with U.S. swimmer Regan Smith also posting a time faster than the previous mark. Hungary’s Hubert Kos set multiple short-course backstroke records, including a 48.16 in the 100m, while Dutchman Caspar Corbeau broke the men’s 200m breaststroke barrier with 1:59.52. Canadian Josh Liendo added a home‑crowd 100m freestyle victory after setting a short-course 100m butterfly world record earlier in the meet, which featured multiple Triple Crowns, large bonuses and strong Australian performances amid recent national roster changes.
