Sunderland Loses 1-0 to Sporting Lisbon, Le Bris Calls for Tactical Ruthlessness
Sunderland's manager, Regis Le Bris, called for greater ruthlessness and clinical finishing after the team narrowly lost 1-0 to Sporting CP in their pre-season training camp in Portugal. The only goal came from Francisco Trincão in the first half, despite Sunderland creating several good chances, particularly through striker Eliezer Mayenda. Le Bris rotated his squad by fielding almost completely different line-ups in each half, giving valuable playing time to new signings Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, and Chemsdine Talbi. While pleased with the squad's energy and progress, Le Bris emphasized the importance of learning from defensive mistakes and improving goal-scoring efficiency ahead of their upcoming match against Hearts. The Sunderland boss acknowledged Sporting's maturity and organization, noting it was beneficial to confront such challenges early in the season. Overall, Le Bris remains optimistic but insists that converting created chances will be key for Sunderland in the new campaign.
