CBP seizes $14M meth hidden in Texas produce shipment
On April 11, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge seized over $14 million worth of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of bell peppers and cucumbers. The officers discovered 300 packages of suspected meth weighing 1,635.56 pounds after conducting a thorough inspection that included nonintrusive inspection equipment and a K-9 team. Port Director Carlos Rodriguez emphasized the importance of their efforts to prevent such harmful narcotics from reaching American streets. The tractor-trailer was confiscated, and a criminal inquiry was launched by Homeland Security Investigations. While the drugs were seized, details about the driver's arrest or charges remain unclear. This incident highlights ongoing challenges at the U.S.-Mexico border regarding drug trafficking.
